What happens to Sodapop after the outsiders?
Sodapop's fate
On a DVD commentary, Rob Lowe said he asked S.E. Hinton where she saw his character, Sodapop, going after the events of "The Outsiders." He said she told him that Sodapop is drafted, goes to fight in Vietnam and dies there.
After the book and film takes place, S.E Hinton said that he was drafted to fight in Veitnam and died in battle.
After finding out that Sodapop is upset because his letters to Sandy went unanswered, Ponyboy realizes that he “never had paid much attention to Soda's problems.” At the end of the novel, Sodapop is the character who finally unites the Curtis family, after he breaks down in tears over his brothers' constant fighting.
She indeed cheated on Soda and got pregnant with someone else. Soda wanted to marry her, and help care for the baby, but she told him to stay away from her, moving to Florida to live with her grandparents. The baby was born in Florida in the 1960s.
When Pony learns that Sandy's pregnant—not with Soda's kid—and that Sandy's parents refused to let her marry Soda, he realizes Soda has problems too.
Sodapop is dating, and in love with Sandy near the beginning of the book, a pretty girl with china blue eyes and blonde hair.

Sodapop is explaining his struggle as the middle child and the anxieties he is dealing with. Sodapop has experienced much loss in his young life: both of his parents, Johnny and Dally, Mickey Mouse, and Sandy. He tries hard to keep his brothers peaceful, wanting to keep their family together.
How did Sodapop get its name?
They say the term "soda pop" is traced back to the 1800s when seltzer water came into production and tasty carbonated beverages were eventually served at soda fountains in drug stores. Their report indicates "pop" itself caught on as slang, and was prominently used in northern states like Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Soda, never very good in school, has dropped out at age 16 and is working to help support the family. Both boys focus on the future of Ponyboy; ensuring his success is the driving force of the family.

Additionally, Soda takes Pony with him to hang out with him and his friends. Overall, Pony and Soda have stronger and better relationship than Pony and Darry. Both Soda and Darry love Ponyboy. However, they have very different ways of showing their love which leads to very different relationships between the boys.

Tulsa's own Lynne Hatheway Anthony was cast as Sodapop's girlfriend, Sandy. Though her scenes were shot, they were ultimately never used in the film.

In the scene where Ponyboy and Johnny run away from home, and a group of Socs jump them at the park, David is the Soc who attempted to drown Ponyboy in the fountain, before running away when Johnny killed Bob (Robert Sheldon).

Pony and Two-Bit also visit Dally, who is still in the hospital. He is his old self, and resents the fact that he will not be able to take part in the rumble that night. He asks Two-Bit for his black-handled switchblade and, upon receiving it, places it under his pillow.

In the heat of the moment, Darry slaps Ponyboy and instantly regrets it. Ponyboy now knows for sure that Darry doesn't want him and runs out the door followed by Darry's cries of regret. Pony heads back to the vacant lot, wakes Johnny, and announces that it is time for them to run away.
Sodapop works at the DX station with his best friend, Steve Randal. Soda dropped out of high school, claiming that he is just too dumb to graduate, and he seems content to keep working at the gas station.
